The Blackbeard TM Process Modeler is an implementation of a problem solving model known as the Blackboard Model in AI literature. The core components of Blackbeard TM have been implemented in .NET, and supporting software modules leverage existing open source products ike Velocity and Spring. Applications of Blackbeard include Business Process Modeling, Image and Speech Recognition and Testing/ erification of service configurations in Service Oriented Architectures. Blackbeard TM is built on top of a general Blackboard Framework and can be used to create and execute Business Process Models. Business process models are created in a Visual Development Environment by adding smaller functional modules or smaller processes to your model and stringing them together (specifying I/O relationships). You generally start with the simplest processes and functions and build larger and larger process models. Variables, Looping (iteration) and data-aggregation and reporting are supported. A simple Model Repository solution allows users to share and persist models across the enterprise.
Other features include: 1. Ability to specify Nested Process Models (Models within Models) 2. Sharepoint based Model Repository Service for sharing process models across the Enterprise 3. Ability to directly edit model diagrams and automatic synchronization of those edits with the underlying object model 4. Simple and fast Installation program to install the Blackbeard TM Visual Development Environment and Repository. 5. Easy to use custom wizards to quickly create process pipelines/flows.
Blackbeard 1.0 is scheduled for release in February, 2007.
